A TRIP to Wales proved a real “high note” for members of the Bury Parish Junior Choir who got to grips with the Queen’s Baton which was en route to Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games.

The choristers were camping near Caernarfon and were at the National Slate Museum of Wales when they realised the baton was due to arrive by the Llanberis Lake Railway at Lake Padarn.

They were allowed to hold the baton and have their picture taken with it, proving a highlight of their four-day stay.

Bury Parish Church Choir School is currently holding auditions in a bid to recruit boys and girls aged seven and above who display musical potential and enjoy singing.

Tuition, books, meals and robes are provided free of charge, and no experience is required.

Held every Friday in term time, Choir School encourages choristers to improve their musical skills through the Royal School of Church Music’s Voice for Life course.

They are also able to study music theory to grade five.

Choristers receive a fee for singing at the Friday rehearsal and Sunday services, with opportunities to sing at weddings.

The young choristers also play a full part in the residential choir tours and in recent years, they have deputised for the choirs at Worcester Cathedral, St George’s Chapel in Windsor, and at Bristol, Edinburgh and Canterbury cathedrals.
