BURY Lions have launched a renewed appeal for groups, organisations and businesses to support the town’s annual carnival.

Ahead of the popular event, which will take place on Sunday, June 8, people are being asked to take part in the parade and gala.

Carnival chairman Scott Richardson said: “We cannot continue this great event without the support of groups, organisations and businesses to take part in the parade, gala or car boot sale.

“I’m a little concerned that there is a lack of interest this year as I’ve only received a few applications, but I hope this picks up.

“We’ve had great response from sponsors which are currently Mr Simms on The Rock, Bestofbury, Rowe Hankins and CPS Cudis, and potential talks with Best in Bury may also produce some more sponsorship.

“So, I am asking all groups, schools, youth clubs, businesses and charities to please get behind us and help us put on a fantastic carnival.”

In keeping with tradition, the Bury Lions Carnival will feature the colourful floats procession which will follow its usual route through the town centre.

The gala will include an all day car boot sale, carnival stalls, performances and children’s inflatables.

There are also plans for carnival princesses past and present to attend, as well as those who have won the Miss Bury title.

The gala arena — which will be sited on the Market Street car park, off Spring Street — is scheduled to be held between 10am and 4.30pm and the street parade will take place at 1.30pm.

Volunteers wishing to help on the parade would also be welcome.

Every penny raised during the carnival goes towards charities and good causes in the community.
