A NEW venue in Bury — located in a ventilation business premises — is hoping to bring a breath of fresh air to the music scene.

The team behind Red Wall Studios, in Wellington Street, is hoping to attract high-profile musicians and bands by opening Red Wall Live in the same road.

The venue will be based in an unused space at the premises of neighbouring firm Airmatic.

Carl Heyes, the director of Red Wall Studios, said: “We stumbled across this place, as my dad buys parts from them, and he found out that they had a massive empty space that is not being used.”

The firm constructs acoustics, compressors and ventilation systems from sheet metal, and it is thought the 5,000 sqft room could cater for about 500 music fans.

The opening night has been scheduled for May 31, with Bury group The Rocket already confirmed to appear.

Paul Haywood, the owner of Airmatic said: “Since we moved in July, 2013, we have been looking to create something different with the space.

"The team at Red Wall are experts in this area and there’s no better group to lead the project. We look forward to the many events ahead.”

Mr Heyes, aged 30, said the idea to set up their own music venue had grown through working with bands at the studio, which has been open nearly four years.

He said: “We have found that bands struggle to find decent local venues. There is not really a large venue in Bury that can hold more than 200 people.

“All the directors are music lovers and wanted to be involved.

“We have had a lot of positive feedback, and people are already asking where they can get tickets.”

Mr Heyes said he envisaged the venue would be able to attract small and medium-sized touring bands, and is still holding out hope that it could even attract Bury’s biggest band and freemen of the town, Elbow.

He added: “You never know, they are obviously a massive, massive name but we are in their town, they might do a secret gig. I have sent them a message, so hopefully we can convince them to do it.”

Advance tickets for the May 31 gig cost £4.
