DEDICATED volunteers are celebrating after raising more than £110,000 in less than 10 years for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The Bury Fundraising Group, which was established in 2005, consists of 10 regular volunteers.

The group meet monthly to raise funds towards helping Marie Curie Nurses provide free care to people with terminal cancer and other illnesses.

Trixie Munro, chairman of the group, said: ‘We would like to thank all the volunteers in the group who have given their time to help us reach this amazing figure, and also the wider network of volunteers who help us out with collections.

“To reach £110,000 is wonderful — in real terms, this pays for five Marie Curie Nurses to care for people with terminal illnesses for a year and three additional hours of Marie Curie’s entire nursing service across the UK.”

Kaylie Morrison, a community fundraiser for Marie Curie Cancer Care, added: “The Bury fundraising group have reached a fantastic milestone in their fundraising in less than 10 years.

“Their dedication to raising funds is second to none, organising collections at supermarkets, looking after collecting boxes in stores and businesses and organising amazing events throughout the year too.”
