A POLICE officer from Bury is facing allegations that he raped a woman.
PC Stuart Jenkins, aged 37, of Springfield Road, Holcombe Brook, was charged with rape and faces trial next year.
He was arrested in May and interviewed after the alleged victim came forward to police.
The allegation is that Mr Jenkins raped the woman in Bury at some point during the period of December 24, 2010 and January 1, 2011.
There is no accusation that he was on duty at the time of the alleged assault.
He appeared before Preston magistrates on July 22 and his case was sent to Preston Crown Court, where he appeared on August 6.
Mr Jenkins is due to appear at the same court on October 31 for a plea-and-case-management hearing.
A provisional trial date has been set for February 5. The trial would last around three days.
PC Jenkins works for Greater Manchester Police and has been suspended until the outcome of the court case.
