5:36pm Monday 9th September 2013 in News
FAMILIES blazed a trail to Bury Fire Station on Saturday.
Youngsters were treated to a host of activities at the open day, including fairground rides, go karts, vintage police cars, military vehicles and games.
There was also a demonstration of how firefighters would cut a casualty free from a car in a simulated collision at the station, now based on Chamberhall Business Park.
Watch manager Steve Wilcock said: “It was absolutely brilliant.
“For the first time ever, people were allowed to go up on the hydraulic platform. It was taking people 100ft high, with the harnesses on.
“It was the first event of this kind we have had at the new station.”
There were also stalls with help and advice for visitors, including quitting smoking, first aid demonstrations and recycling.
All profits raised on the day with be split between The Fire Fighters Charity and the Stephen Hunt Memorial Fund.
