Council tax rise of 3.5 per cent for Bury residents

COUNCIL tax bills in Bury are to rise by 3.5 per cent. The increase is the first for three years and on is a par with some other Greater Manchester authorities. Bury Council’s annual budget meeting held tonight (Wed) also approved a rents rise averaging 4.1 per cent for Six Town Housing tenants as well as savings of £10 million during the next financial year. However, part of the council ranger service will be saved with two posts being retained. Previous proposals had threatened the loss of eight positions.
