Visitors banned from hospital wards

THREE wards at Fairfield Hospital have been shut to visitors after an outbreak of the norovirus winter vomiting bug.

Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the hospital, has closed the wards for at least 48 hours to stop the illness spreading.

They are wards six, 19 and 21, which deal with respiratory medicine, rehabilitation services for stroke patients and general medicine.

Friends and family will be able to visit the wards in “extenuating circumstances” but must phone in advance to arrange the visit.

All other wards in the hospital remain open to visitors.
