Warning over converter thefts
12:50pm Tuesday 12th February 2013 in News
POLICE are warning motorists to be wary of catalytic converter thieves, after 40 convertors were stolen across Greater Manchester in a four-week period.
Officers say thieves usually strike in the early hours of the morning and vans and people carriers are particularly at risk.
Sergeant Tony Belshaw, of Greater Manchester Police, said: “Converters are expensive to replace.
“I would therefore urge owners to park their vehicles in a locked garage whenever possible, or at least in a well-lit and busy location that is covered by CCTV ideally. It is also advisable to install a Thatcham-approved alarm that will activate if your vehicle is lifted or tilted, or a catalytic converter protection device or marking system.”
