SADDLE sore, but successful. That’s more than 50 employees of the Warth Business Centre who were challenged by Fit For Free to “Pedal for Pounds” in a fundraising mission for Bury Hospice.

Over a four-hour period, staff who work at the Warth Road centre took on the task of cycling as many kilometres as they could within five minutes on a fixed bike.

Their overall distance was calculated and then converted into a donation for Bury Hospice, with £5 awarded for every kilometre covered. The centre’s pedalling raised a grand total of £438.50.

Leighmans.com, one of the companies based at the centre, offered to match whatever its employees raised adding an additional £53 to the total donation.

Staff from Fit For Free, based on The Rock, are now looking for more businesses to take part in similar fundraising events as it continues to generate money for Bury Hospice.

Fir For Free manager Chris Green said: “Pedal For Pounds is a fun way for companies to come together and raise money for a great cause. Participants who took up the challenge saw just how much their hard pedalling amounted to, in monetary terms, helping to provide care for those who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting disease.”

Michelle King, hospice community fundraiser, said: “We’re very grateful to Fit For Free for assisting our cause with Pedal For Pounds. Here at Bury Hospice we pledge to care for both patients and their families with the utmost dedication and professionalism, and we aim to make a difference every day to all those who need our support.”
