TOWNSIDE Primary Care Centre has become a one-stop shop for sexual health advice and treatment following the relocation of services from Fairfield Hospital.
The genito urinary medicine (GUM) sexual health services had previously been based at the hospital’s Barlow Suite, but have now been moved to the third floor of the Townside centre in Knowsley Street.
Community sexual health services and the Young Persons Advisory Service (YPAS) are already at Townside, and the relocation of GUM services means that all sexual health advice, assessment, diagnosis and treatment is provided under one roof.
The changes form part of wider plans to integrate sexual health services in the community over the coming months, with Townside Primary Care Centre being the central hub.
Dr Kiran Patel, chairman and clinical lead for the NHS Bury Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “This change is about providing the best possible care in the most convenient place for patients.
“One of our key objectives is to bring services closer to home, and the relocation of this service into a community location is just one example of how, in partnership, we are making improvements to the way that services are delivered.”
Patients will be able to access all sexual health services by calling one central number 0161 762 1588. They can also book appointments or just drop in.
