Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was found collapsed with serious head injuries in Bury.

The 53-year-old woman was found in the garden outside a block of flats in Broad Oak Lane, in Fairfield, shortly after 2am on Thursday.

She was taken to hospital and is said to be in a critical condition.
A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is still in police custody.
A 49-year-old man is also in custody after being arrested on suspicion of assault.
It is not yet known how the woman came by her injuries.

Police say they are keeping an open mind as to whether they were caused deliberately or in an accident.
Detectives cordoned off the property in Broad Oak Lane, as well as a separate address in Topping Fold Road.
Shocked neighbours reported seeing police using sniffer dogs to search Broad Oak Lane.
Det Insp Terry Crompton said: "As we are still at a very early stage in our inquiries, we do not want anyone to rush to any conclusions about what has happened here.
"While two men are in custody, we are keeping an open mind as to how this woman has come to suffer these serious head injuries.
"Dedicated family liaison officers are supporting the woman's family at this difficult time.
"I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed anything that may be significant to our investigation to get in touch."

Det Insp Crompton said he was particularly interested in hearing from anyone who was in Broad Oak Lane at about 2am on Thursday, or anyone who was in Topping Fold Road.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
