I write in response to the letter printed in the Bury Times on October 13 “Evacuees didn't dress like that”.
As a parent, grandparent and member of staff at a local primary school, I would like to put the other side of the story. History days like this are extremely important to children and the fact that their costume may not be “historically accurate” is neither here nor there. These costumes are usually put together by very busy parents from items that they may already have or can borrow at very little expense.
The important thing for history days is that the children get a flavour of what it was like. My congratulations to the parents of the two children photographed, for making a fantastic effort with their children’s outfits.
I am sure the children (and Cllr Creswell) had a fantastic and informative day.
