First for an eco friendly school

PRIMARY schoolchildren in Ramsbottom are celebrating after their school became the first in Bury to achieve Green Flag status.

Holcombe Brook Primary School has been awarded the accolade following an assessment last month which concluded that the school is an environmentally friendly place.

Staff, parents and children at the school have been involved in the venture over the past few years, first attaining the bronze award then the silver, before finally receiving the acclaimed Green Flag.

The award scheme recognises and rewards the best green spaces in the country.

Mrs Emery, the eco-schools co-ordinator and part-time teacher said: “We have covered many green issues within school, the local community and beyond.

“It’s great that we have been recognised for our continued excellence in improving the environmental performance of our school and the wider community. The children in particular deserve the Green Flag for all their hard work and dedication.”

The flag was presented to the school at a special assembly.
