MGs turn heads and burn rubber in big Black Pudding Race

ALMOST 60 MG cars spanning more than 40 years caused heads to turn when they parked up at Burrs Country Park.

The vehicles, all with a rich motoring pedigree, then travelled the lanes of Lancashire in a 90-mile charity Black Pudding Run before returning to the park in Bury.

The annual event, the eighth of its kind, was organised by the Bury MG Owners Club, and complimentary samples of the town’s most famous delicacy were supplied to the drivers, courtesy of the club’s sponsors, the Bury Black Pudding Company.

Thanks to the charity run, about £500 was raised for When You Wish Upon A Star, which provides help and support for families of terminally ill children.

Ted Sherratt, secretary of Bury MG Owners Club, said: “We awarded a prize to the oldest MG, which dated from 1954. The newest one was from 2005.

“A total of 58 cars took part in the charity run. We left Burrs Country Park and went all through Lancashire before arriving back at Bury to enjoy food and refreshments at the Brown Cow pub.”

Bury MG Owners Club was reformed in 2002 and has around 20 members.
