A FUN day that has brought country craft to Prestwich for the last four years will continue despite fears it might run out of cash.
Prestwich Clough Day will take place at St Mary’s Flower Park in Bury New Road on May 16 after vital funding was found.
It began in 2005 to mark the Clough’s centenary and will this year showcase more than 50 activities, including a falconry display and brass band performances.
The organisers said this week that they are able to proceed with the event thanks to a grant from the Prestwich Area Partnership for £2,000 to help fund the show, which costs more than £6,000 to stage.
Prestwich Clough Day organising committee chairman David Stanley said: “We are delighted with the grant as it ensures the committee can still host Prestwich Clough Day as a free event.
“In these days of economic uncertainty, it is essential that there are community events that people can attend without having to worry about the expense. “Last year saw 4,000 people attend on a rain-swept Sunday to enjoy a full afternoon of entertainment “This year promises to be even bigger with more activities including street artists, brass bands, morris dancers, a falconry display, Punch and Judy shows, a clown and much, much more.
“We fully anticipate that it will be an impressive opening event to the newly-established Prestwich Festival, which starts on May 16 until June 20.”
