Family and friends say a final farewell to carnival veteran Janet

MORE than 100 family and friends of Prestwich Carnival organiser Janet McAvinue attended her funeral on Monday.

Janet died after suffering a heart attack at her home in Heywood Road, Prestwich. She was aged 53 and leaves a husband, Jim, and daughter, Alyshia.

She helped organise the carnival parade floats and princesses for more than a decade and was widely known in the community.

Monday’s service took place at Our Lady of Dolours Servites Church in Bury New Road, Kersal, before burial at Radcliffe Cemetery. The Mayor of Bury, Cllr Sheila Magnall, was among those who attended the service.
