It’s ‘say cheese’ as shop opens

AN AWARD-winning cheese shop and deli is coming to Prestwich.

After more than two years in West Yorkshire, culinary experts Graham Williams and partner Kath Armitage are opening the second branch of The Cheese Place in the Radius complex on Monday.

The first store opened in 2007 in Haworth, the village known for its connections with the Brontes.

The shop built up a loyal following, became popular with tourists and launched its own internet ordering service. That encouraged Graham and Kath to branch out .

Graham, aged 50, said: “Prestwich is a perfect spot for us. There is so much revitalisation going on here with Costa Coffee and two quality restaurants next door.

“We heard about the successful farmers’ market and we will be getting involved in the next one. Things really seem to be happening here.”

The firm was named best independent cheese retailer in the 2008 Daily Crest awards and was highly recommended in the 2008 British Cheese Awards best new deli category.

The new Prestwich shop will sell up to 70 hand-made British cheeses and other produce.

Graham said: “Everything we sell is handmade by companies with generations of experience. There is no factory production.

“The cheeses are nurtured from day one to when they are sold.”
