A GARDENING competition will be in full bloom if Whitefield residents respond to an invitation to take part.
Elms Tenants & Residents Association is once more running the event, with categories such as front/side garden, tub, back garden, children, back yard/patio, school/community, hanging basket, environmentally friendly and special effort.
The judges will be local horticultural experts Yvonne and David Moore.
Yvonne said: “We really enjoy the judging. It is our opportunity to see some great gardens incorporating very diverse ideas and styles.”
Elms in Bloom 2009 is funded with a £718 grant from Whitefield and Unsworth Local Area Partnership (LAP).
Councillor Michelle Wiseman, LAP chairwoman, said: “The LAP is very pleased to fund this project. Advice and grants are available through the partnership for other neighbourhoods which want to run their own gardening competitions.”
Help is at hand for any resident who feels that their garden is not up to scratch or need to brush up on their gardening knowledge. Elms TRA also has a gardening club where residents learn from each other, swap plants and can practise their skills.
To enter: complete a form and return it to Elms Community Centre in Green Lane, Whitefield, by July 12. Judging takes place on Saturday August 1.
For an entry form or more information: contact Joan Grimshaw at the community centre; call (0161) 766 3369 or email Joan at joan.grimshaw@ hotmail.co.uk
