Fake T-shirts seized outside the Oasis concert at Heaton Park are going to be recycled and sent to some of the world’s poorest people.
More than 1,300 counterfeit T-shirts were taken off traders by trading standards officers during the Oasis gigs in early June.
As part of a recycling drive by Manchester City Council, these will now be passed on to the International Aid Trust charity.
The charity will remove the bogus logos of bands such as Oasis, Kasabian and The Enemy, before sending them to needy people in eastern Europe, Africa and India.
Meanwhile, 654 bogus posters that were also seized will be turned back into paper while the frames from 132 counterfeit pictures will be donated to charities for reuse.
Cllr Richard Cowell, Manchester City Council’s executive member for the environment, said: “I am delighted that we stopped these items being bought by consumers and we also stopped them ending up on landfill sites.”
The Rev Bernard Cocker, director and founder of the International Aid Trust, said: “It’s wonderful that we are working with Manchester City Council, as these items are being turned into a force for good which is giving hope to some of the world’s poorest people.”
