A CHILDREN’S TV presenter is to host a special event at a Whitefield school next week to help improve the range of leisure time activities for its students.

Elm Bank Specialist Arts College is holding a Hear Me Now fun day on July 4, attended by Ade Adepitain, a wheelchair basketball player as well as CBBC presenter.

Elaine Parkinson, headteacher of the school on Ripon Avenue, explained: “The idea of the event is to consult with students in an informal and fun environment to better understand their views with regard to leisuretime activities, so that we can make relevant activities more freely available.”

Anna Sheppard, Bury Council’s extended services cluster co-ordinator and Hear Me Now event organiser added: “Elms Bank is a special school and the students get few opportunities to take part in accessible, inclusive activities.

“Cost can be prohibitive and services are not always geared up to meet everyone’s individual requirements.

“We are hoping that this fun day reaches out to our students in an informal way so that we can make positive changes.”

Although the day is aimed at information gathering, it will be a fun day with activities including a bouncy castle/giant boxing ring, soft play area, dance class workshops, Castle Knights wheelchair basket ball coaching, climbing wall and DJ lessons.

Students from Prestwich Arts College and Bury College will be lending their support on the day.
