A Bury business has scooped an award for their environmental and sustainability practices.

Bury-based environmental consultancy and contractor, The LK Group has triumphed at The Green Apple Awards for Environmental Best Practice 2022, scooping top place in the Sustainable Development Sector category.

LK manging director, Conor Leyden, together with Samantha Neden and Helen Bennett joined a room full of like-minded sustainability innovators at an intimate presentation ceremony held in the House of Commons at the Palace of Westminster, London.

The highly sought-after award for Green Champion in the Building and Construction Sustainable Development Sector was presented to The LK Group in recognition of its sustainable delivery of both the site investigation and land remediation at the Collyhurst Village development site in Manchester, part of the flagship Victoria North urban regeneration project.

The Group was able to achieve a high level of sustainability through value engineering and recycling materials on site for its clients Far East Consortium and Manchester City Council.

LK Group managing director, Conor Leyden said: “This regeneration project has been particularly rewarding for us and sustainability was a major focus when we prepared the brownfield Collyhurst Village site for construction.

“Our innovative approach to remediation meant that we were able to deliver our works safely and efficiently, whilst maximising the environmental benefits of our work in the local community.”

The Green Apple Environment Awards ceremony was presided over by environmentalist and motivational speaker, Phil Williams, owner of Plan-it Eco, who has given his life to promoting environmental awareness, encouraging people to live and work more responsibly and sustainably.

Launched in 1994, The Green Apple Environment Awards are organised by The Green Organisation, to reward and promote environmental best practice around the world.
