TWO Scouts from Bury have achieved the prestigious Queen’s Scout Award.

George Nuttall and Daniel Wilde, both from Ramsbottom, were presented the award by the Mayor of Bolton Councillor Roger Hayes.

The award is the highest youth award available across the entire scouting movement.

To achieve the Queen’s Scout Award, scouts must complete challenges in areas such as community development, adventurous activities and expeditions.

Scouts must also demonstrate that they are confident in first aid, health and safety, navigation and route planning, cooking and risk assessment.

Paul Raine, assistant county commissioner and co-ordinator for Greater Manchester North Scout county, said: “This is a great achievement for the scouts.

"This is the first time that we have had more than a couple of scouts achieve the Queen’s Scout Awards.”

Other youngsters from the local area who received the award are Alice Trengove, Maiti Hutchinson and Joshua Belcher, all from Bolton, and Alexander Wedgewood, from Rochdale.

The presentation took place in the Mayor’s Parlour at Bolton Town Hall on Friday, April 13 with parents, friends and leaders attending.

Each of the Queen’s Scouts gave a short talk outlining some of their highlights and adventures they had experienced on their journey to becoming Queen’s Scouts.

The Mayor of Bolton Roger Hayes, accompanied by Andrew Corries, the Regional Scout Commissioner, then presented the certificates and badges.
