A WHITEFIELD primary school has gained an outdoor gym.

Higher Lane Primary School now has seven pieces of gym equipment for pupils to take advantage of.

The equipment is specifically designed for schoolchildren and was funded through the efforts of the parent teacher assosciation.

Ian Tetlow, headteacher, said: "We are extremely grateful to our very committed and hardworking PTA who have funded this marvellous outdoor gym for our children. We have seven pieces of equipment ranging from one person per piece to 3 per piece.

"The children will have the opportunity to use the equipment at break and lunch. The benefits of fresh air and exercise for our children are great and with this outdoor gym they get both. It certainly aids their health and wellbeing.

"As advances in technology increasingly draw young people indoors and the curriculum becomes more demanding, it can be hard to find time to coax children outside for the fresh air and exercise that they need to thrive."
