THE first pictures from inside a newly redeveloped adult rehabilitation centre in Bury have been revealed.

Killelea House Intermediate Care Facility, in Brandlesholme Road, officially reopened on February 7 after a £2.1 million renovation and extension.

The centre provides therapy and treatment for adults who need rehabilitation following illness or injury.

It now boasts a fully equipped therapy hub to help people regain confidence and skills to manage every day tasks, as well as a bistro, hairdressers and cafe, which will open in the coming months.

Four rehabilitation flats, with updated equipment and assistive technology, have also been created as a halfway home option so people can test out their abilities before going home.

As part of the relaunch a special reopening ceremony was held and the Mayor of Bury, Councillor Dorothy Gunther, cut the ceremonial ribbon.

Bury Councillors, including Leader of the Council Cllr Rishi Shori, and cabinet member for health and wellbeing Cllr Andrea Simpson also attended the opening, and members of the public were invited to look round the facility.

Cllr Simpson said: “This is a fantastic scheme to meet the demands of a growing elderly population who will rely more and more on intermediate care services.

"The new Killelea will provide care and support for vulnerable people with the emphasis on increasing people’s independence to live on their own for longer.

"These new facilities will provide up-to-date approaches to reablement, focusing on independence and reducing the likelihood of people being re-admitted to hospital or going into a residential home.”
