A MANCHESTER food charity has been given a helping hand to the tune of £50,000 to help it expand into Prestwich.

Foodcycle, which supports the hungry and lonely by serving meals made from surplus food donations from local suppliers.

A team from Foodcycle visited Morrisons in Stanley Road, Whitefield to collect a cheque for £49,869 from the Morrisons Foundation.

Foodcycle CEO Mary McGrath said: "We’re delighted to be receiving this funding from Morrisons.

"It will help us to open new projects in Salford, Langworthy and Prestwich, and another venue later in the year.

"We look forward to nourishing more communities in the North West using the power of good food."

Morrisons Whitefield's community champion, Rochelle Gardner helped organise the cheque presentation and says the store has been helping out the charity by giving away its waste food for some time.
