THE GREENEST - and newest - street in Prestwich has been given the thumbs-up by environmental cam-paigner and TV presenter, Michaela Strachan.
After becoming known for her appearances on programmes like the Really Wild Show and the Bafta-award winning Elephant Diaries, Michaela is renowned for her dedication to wildlife and the environment.
On a visit to the town last week, she was keen to cast her eye over revolutionary eco-friendly homes in Heywood Gardens, which went on sale this month.
The 10 properties which costs upwards of £245,000, feature energy-saving initiatives like solar panels and wind turbines (subject to planning permission), water butts to capture rain water, high-quality insulation, efficient central heating and an air recycling system, which, combined, can cut a third of energy usage and bills.
After inspecting the homes, which were built by Inspired Developments (ID), Michaela said: "Heywood Gardens is setting a fantastic benchmark for the future of environmentally friendly house building and I am delighted to be officially opening it.
"I am always keen to see new ways of protecting the environment, and these homes go a long way towards doing that."
She added: "ID has worked hard to find innovative ways of integrating eco-friendly features within busy family life, and the end result is fantastic.
"I hope Heywood Gardens marks the beginning of a new era of sustainable house building in this country."
