AN elderly couple’s garage caught fire late at night.
Firefighters were called to Heys Road, in Prestwich at about 11.30pm yesterday.
Two fire engines were scrambled to the blaze and crews were at the scene for nearly two hours.
They arrived at the property before the fire was able to spread from the garage, which is separated from the house by a small alleyway.
Firefighter Sam Smith said the elderly householders were never at risk from the blaze.
He said: “We turned up and put it out, it wasn’t a huge fire, nobody was in danger. We managed to keep it back before it got anywhere near the house.”
He added that the crews had been able to get the fire under control relatively easily.
“It was nothing out of the ordinary,” he said.
It is not yet known what started the fire.
