A RESTAURANT in Whitefield has earned a coveted place in the food lover's bible, The Good Food Guide 2017

One88 Kitchen and Bar in Bury New Road has only been open a few months but is one of 14 new entries from the North West in this year's Guide.

The highly commended eatery describes itself as ‘casual fine dining away from the hustle and bustle, far from the jostling hordes, but still central to Manchester’s vibrant food scene.’

Opened in January 2017, the modern new dining restaurant was the first self-funded restaurant opened by Chef-patron David Gale with his pal Lee Richardson.

He worked in London, New York and Las Vegas before renovating the Oue88 Kitchen and Bar building, situated opposite Slattery.

Lee Richardson, co-owner of One88, said: “We are delighted, absolutely delighted. We only found out about seven hours ago and the phone has not stopped ringing since.

“We are just really pleased that we could get a little bit of recognition. We have worked so hard for the last six months since we opened, and in the six months running up to the opening.

“We really need to keep going now and we need to keep focused and keep moving forward, we can’t just rest on that.

“We have got a very good following locally, but now there is a little bit more recognition from outside of the area.”

Since the restaurant, which describes itself as offering casual fine dining, opened its doors it has been earning rave reviews from customers and now has capped a successful start with inclusion in the Good Food Guide.

The Good Food Guide is the UK’s bestselling restaurant guide.

Since 1951 the guide has been reviewing and writing about restaurants, pubs and cafés, bringing together the best places to eat out from throughout the country.

It is compiled by combining reader feedback on restaurants up and down the country with anonymous inspections by a team of industry experts.

Elizabeth Carter, Waitrose Good Food Guide Editor, said: “Once again the readers of the guide have pointed our experts towards some brilliant eating in unexpected places.

"Whether it’s fine-dining in a former strip-club, sushi under a railway arch or a fish supper in a shipping container, we find and celebrate culinary flair in all its forms.

“We think that eating out should be fun – and that’s something these restaurants deliver in spades.”
