FRENCH travellers are holidaying in Bury.

Around 30 caravans have parked up in Wellington Road, on land next to Grundy Day Care Centre, crossing the Channel and swapping brie for black puddings.

Cllr Tamoor Tariq said: "They are travellers from France on holiday.

"We have had discussions with them and there doesn't seem to be any issues like anti-social behaviour.

"The council has started the process of seeking legal advice to see what we can do move them so there is a minimal affect on the local community."

A resident, who did not wish to be named, said there were 'about 30 caravans' on council land.

Cllr Tariq added police had visited the travellers on Monday evening and called their decision to stop there 'unexpected'.
