A NURSE born and trained in Bury has been honoured with an award in her new home of Guernsey.
Ann Kavanagh, aged 54, did her nurses training at Prestwich Hospital and worked for Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust for 24 years.
She has just been named Nurse of the Year for the Bailiwick of Guernsey, a patient nominated award she said she was ‘proud’ to receive. In 1983 she took a post at Fairfield General Hospital, working in various mental health departments.
Mrs Kavanagh, who used to live in Brookwater Close in Tottington, said: “I am so proud personally and professionally to have received the Nurse of the Year award for the Balliwick of Guernsey, which includes Alderney.
“It seems poignant to have received this award during Mental Health Awareness Week. Hopefully helping to destigmatise mental health issues.”
Mrs Kavanagh now works as a psychiatric nurse at Princess Elizabeth Hospital on Guernsey. She flies home regularly to visit her 89-year-old father and her two sons, aged 24 and 29, who still live in Bury.
