PETER Kay's hit comedy Car Share is back - and fans are overjoyed.

Twitter went into meltdown as the subtle but hilarious show returned to screens last night.

After being forced to commute together in a supermarket Car Share scheme, assistant manager John Redmond, - played by Bolton comedian Peter - and promotions assistant Kayleigh Kitson -played by Sian Gibson - now find themselves reluctantly having to make the daily commute to work separately.

There was even a surprise cameo from Elbow frontman Guy Garvey, from Bury (no more spoilers, I promise).

Many people binged on the whole new series last night as the rest of the episodes were available on BBC iPlayer straight after part one aired.

The series will continue on BBC One on Tuesdays at 9pm.

Speaking before the launch, Peter and Sian revealed how they felt to be back in the red Fiat 500L for the new series.

Peter said: "It was an absolute joy to be back in the car again as, after the first series, everything was much more familiar. Also the weather was particularly kind to us, we had plenty of sunshine and only had one days of rain which is pretty rare in the north west of England."

Sian said: "I couldn't wait to get back in the car because we had such a great time making the first series. This time felt even better because like Peter said we were much more familiar with everything."

Filming took place in Bolton, Westhoughton, Horwich, Walkden, Little Hulton, Swinton, Bury, Irlams o’th’Height, Altrincham and Trafford.

Speaking to fellow Boltonian, Sara Cox on BBC Radio 2's breakfast show yesterday morning, Peter shared some thoughts on his career ahead of the television premiere.

He revealed he thought he would not have had the career he has had without Bury comedian Victoria Wood's influence.

From Janice Hughes

What is your response?Best thing on TV.....love this pair, laugh from beginning to end, want to watch a whole movie of it

From Darren Hill

What is your response?Brilliant, superb. Just what you would expect from Peter, and Sian also. Down to earth, taking the 'mick' out of everyday faults and that's what makes it so good.

The first of a six-part series celebrating the comedy of Victoria Wood - Our Friend Victoria - aired last night.

He said: "What's mad is tonight, she’s on after us and what's weird is I genuinely think that I would not be doing what I’m doing if it weren’t for her.

"It’s weird how everything works out because there’s so many lines in Car Share that are just not lifted from her stuff, but you know it’s so much an influence when I was growing up watching her, seeing her on tv."

He spoke fondly about his school days and classmates coming in in the morning and chatting about a new episode of the show.

He added: "It’s crazy how much of an influence she’s had, like rhythmically, you don’t realise."
