THE Met Office has advised motorists of difficult conditions on the roads after issuing a severe weather warning for ice.

Ice is due to affect Greater Manchester this evening and tomorrow morning.

Temperatures are forecast to fall below zero this evening, Monday February 27, with sleet, hail and snow a possibility on higher ground.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Ice is expected to form during Monday evening and overnight leading to difficult driving conditions on untreated roads and slippery conditions on pavements.”

The Met Office chief forecaster added: “Showers will affect many parts of the UK during Monday, with some continuing overnight and into Tuesday morning, when temperatures will also fall below zero in some areas, bringing a risk of ice.

“The showers will fall as rain, sleet and hail, but as snow over hills, where several centimetres of snow may accumulate, and locally to lower levels where heavier showers occur.”
