A DRIVER has described the terrifying moment a tree fell in front of his car.

The man, who wished not to be named, was driving along St Ann’s Road when the tree came crashing down just after noon.

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning as Storm Doris batters the borough and gusts are expected to reach 60 to 70 mph.

Drivers, commuters and homeowners are being urged to take care as some isolated gusts could reach speeds of up to 80mph.

St Ann’s Road is blocked between Prestwich Park Road and Lowther Road, while volunteers begin cutting down the tree.

The driver said: “The tree came down 60 seconds before I reached it. It could have easily killed someone.

“I saw it falling and luckily there were no casualties. It has only caused damage to the properties either side of the road.
