Paving slab thief is jailed

A THIEF who stole 12 York stone paving slabs belonging to Bury Council has been jailed for six weeks.

Bury magistrates heard how Steven Kirkbride, aged 42, of Spencer Street, Bury, was part of a gang who committed the theft on February 3. He also pleaded guilty to handling a stolen Vauxhall Vectra. In addition to the jail sentence he was ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Drink-driver is banned

A DRINK-driver has been banned from holding a licence for 22 months after he was caught behind the wheel of a VW Golf on Bury New Road, Whitefield, on December 27 last year.

Bury Magistrates’ Court heard that Madsar Khan, aged 34, of Blackburn Road, Bolton, had drunk almost three times the legal alcohol limit.

In addition to the driving ban, he was fined £120 and ordered to pay £115 in costs and charges.

Christmas drink-driver banned

A DRINK-driver who was caught on Christmas Day has been banned from the roads for 22 months.

Lee Lawrence, aged 35, of Bronty Avenue, in Bury, admitted being over the alcohol limit when driving a Renault Clio along Bury Old Road, in Whitefield.

Bury Magistrates Court was told Lawrence had drunk nearly three times the legal limit before getting behind the wheel.

In addition to the driving ban he was fined £350 and ordered to pay £120 in prosecution costs and charges.

Disorderly man

MAGISTRATES have sentenced a man to a conditional discharge for 12 months after he pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in Market Street, Bury, on January 9. Justin Geoghegan, aged 36, of Bury New Road, Prestwich, was also ordered to pay £105 in costs and charges.

Shoplifter jailed for 26 weeks

A SHOPLIFTER who stole electrical items worth £224 from Superdrug in Bury has been jailed for 26 weeks.

Bury magistrates heard how Anthony Harris, aged 28, of Glendevon Place, Whitefield, was already subject to suspended prison sentence for thefts when he stole the goods on December 29. He was also ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Man, 25, tagged

MAGISTRATES sentenced a man to be tagged after he admitted using threatening or abusive words or behaviour. Bury Magistrates’ told Steven Coundley, aged 25, of Ashbrook Close, Whitefield, to remain indoors from 9pm to 5.30am.

Drink driver is sentenced

A DRINK driver, who had consumed more than three times the legal alcohol limit, has been sentenced to carry out 100 hours unpaid work.

Andrew Mundy, aged 40, of Victoria Mews, Parr Lane, Bury, initially denied committing the offence in a Ford Mondeo on Victoria Lane, Bury, on October 15 but changed his plea to guilty.

Bury magistrates also banned him from holding a driving licence for two years and ordered him to pay £585 in prosecution costs and charges.

Bound over

STEVEN Wrigley, aged 49, of Tipton Close, Radcliffe, agreed to be bound over to keep the peace for six months or forfeit £100 after admitting a breach of the peace at Bury Magistrates Court.

Woman jailed for assault

A WOMAN has been sentenced to 20 weeks in jail after pleading guilty to assaulting a man. Bury magistrates heard that Tania Whetham, aged 34, of Harwood Crescent, Tottington, had been drinking at the time of the attack and was subject to a suspended sentence for previous assaults.

Drug driver banned

A MOTORIST caught driving under the influence of drugs has been banned from holding a licence for 12 months.

At Bury Magistrates’ Court Anna Jones, aged 21, of Hollins Lane, Bury, admitted committing the offence on November 30 while driving a Ford Fiesta on Hampton Mill Lane, Bury.

Man banned from driving for total of 12 months

MAGISTRATES banned a man from holding a driving licence for 12 months after he admitted driving without a licence or insurance, taking a car without consent and driving whilst unfit through drugs.

Bury magistrates heard how Kieran Clark, aged 24, of no fixed address, committed the offences on January 27 in Huntley Mount Road, Bury.

The court sentenced him to a conditional discharge for 24 months and ordered him to pay £300 compensation.

Damage fine

MAGISTRATES have fined Daniel Helm, aged 47, of Battersby Street, Bury, £80 after he admitted damaging a woman’s door in Bury on January 18. He was also ordered to pay £100 compensation plus £115 costs.

Guilty plea to harassing woman on social media

A MAN who harassed a woman by making unwanted contact with her on social media between September 2 and November 1 last year has been sentenced to a conditional discharge for two years.

Benjamin Howard, aged 20, of Lewis Avenue, Bury, initially denied committing the offence but changed his plea to guilty.

Howard was also ordered to pay £105 in costs and charges and a restraining order was made banning him from contacting his victim.

Man ignored court order

A MAN who ignored a restraining order imposed by a court has been jailed for 36 weeks.

Charles Roscow was banned from contacting a woman, but Bury magistrates heard he breached the order on January 28 and 29 this year, including sending a friend to contact and collect money from her. Roscow, aged 32, of Hillside Road, Ramsbottom, pleaded guilty to the offences and was ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Alcohol thief

A THIEF who stole vodka from a Bury supermarket has been sentenced to a conditional discharge for 12 months.

At Bury Magistrates’ Court Robert Steele, aged 40, of Ormrod Street, Bury, pleaded guilty to committing the offence on January 9.

The court heard the alcohol was worth £39. Steele was also ordered by the court to pay a £20 victim surcharge.
