LEADERS of a Prestwich school want to introduce new security facilities.
Yesoiday Hatorah School in Sedgley Park Road, is a Jewish school that has 800 pupils aged between three and 11.
It has applied to Bury Council for permission to build a gatehouse at the entrance to the school grounds to be used by security staff.
A report from the school to the council says: "The present campus reflects the development and expansion of this primary school since its establishment some 60 years ago.
"To illustrate this, the number of children in 1970 when the original teaching block was constructed was 200.
"It is now the largest primary school in the Greater Manchester area."
It adds: "Of prime concern to the governors and headteacher is the safety of pupils at all times.
"The fact that it is a Jewish educational facility underlines the need to provide the most effective measures to prevent unauthorised access.
"The proposed building is to house both security and administrative staff to monitor all movement of people and vehicles accessing and exiting the site."
The council is aiming to reach a decision by March 11.
