ALLOWING a housing association to run new properties in Bury "would bring a lot of bad neighbours," an objector has claimed.

MCI Developments has asked Bury Council for permission to demolish industrial buildings at the Hartshead Works in Deal Street, Bury, and build 15 houses and 24 apartments in its place.

Bury planning committee is due to reach a decision at a town-hall meeting at 7pm on Tuesday and Bury Council planning officer Jennie Townsend has recommended that it should be minded to approve the application.

A report from the developers to the council says 39 of the properties will be 'affordable' homes — those sold or rented at 80-per-cent of market value — and will be managed by a "locally approved registered provider".

Debra Monk, of Deal Street, formally objected to part of application. She said: "I totally support the demolition of the old buildings and new houses being built, although I feel the apartments being run by a housing association would bring a lot of bad neighbours.

"I would like more information on what clientele would be renting these apartments before I am fully on board.

"I live opposite Openshaw Park and we have a lot of impressionable children who play in this area and that is what worries me."

Thomas Dean, of Rowan Street, formally supported the application and asked for gates to be installed in the back streets to prevent flytipping.
