A SEVEN-year-old schoolboy decided to host his own Macmillan Coffee Morning – raising more than £400.

Mason Jones, a pupil at Butterstile Primary School in Prestwich, sent letters to neighbours in Duckworth Road, Prestwich, inviting them to his cake sale to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support on Friday.

The kind-hearted youngster, who lives with his mum Jade, dad Pete and brother Jackson, aged five, hosted the sale outside his home after finishing school.

Jade, who works for Barclays bank, said: “Mason knows that his dad had cancer a few years ago and had seen the adverts for the Macmillan Coffee Mornings on TV and asked me if he could hold one since school wasn’t doing one.

“I told him he couldn’t because he would be in school on the Friday morning but he asked about doing it after school instead.

“I had no problem with that and thought it was a lovely idea.

“It went really well; we had more than 30 people visit the stall.

“People were stopping on their way past and even an ambulance pulled over so we handed them some cakes too.

“The donations haven’t stopped pouring in from neighbours who couldn’t make it."

She added: “I don’t really know a lot of our neighbours but this has proved just how nice our neighbourhood is.

“I’m extremely proud of him; he’s such a kind-hearted little boy.”

Mason raised £220.36 through the sales at his stall and Barclays have revealed they will match the funds, bringing the total to £440.72.
