A BUDDING sports star from Bury Grammar School has donated £400 to Bury Hospice after completing the Manchester 2K Run.

Annabelle Barnett, of Ringley Hey, Whitefield, took part in the event in May in the centre of Manchester after spending weeks at school collecting sponsors from teachers and friends.

Annabelle, aged 13, who runs the 800 metres for the school’s athletics team, said: “I wanted to raise money for charity and I love running so this seemed a really good way.”

Mum Lucy, a personal trainer added: “I suggested to Annabelle that we support Bury Hospice because we had a close family member there and the hospice really helped them.”

Annabelle runs for Sale Harriers which boasts more than 1,000 members – including 20 international athletes from across the country.

“I feel really proud of myself for taking part in the run and for raising such a fantastic amount for the hospice,” added Annabelle, who is also a keen footballer and hopes to play for a professional ladies’ team.
