STAGING a play about a chaotic shindig will be the next challenge for a Whitefield acting group.

A cast and crew from Whitefield Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (WAODS) is staging a run of Abigail's Party at PADOS House in St Mary's Road, Prestwich, from Tuesday to Friday at 7.30pm each night.

The play is one of writer Mike Leigh's most popular works.

Set in the 1970s, Beverly Moss and estate agent husband Laurence decide to invite new neighbours Angie and Tony plus Sue, whose daughter Abigail is having her own party next door.

The night descends into chaos and tensions rise as couples fall out all in an effort to keep up appearances.

Nicholas Edwards, of WAODS, said: "This is the first time the group has performed this play and are excited to be able to bring one of Leigh’s masterpieces to the people of Bury.

"Beverly loves to listen to music and who doesn't love the smooth hits of the 1970s?

"The play will definitely appeal to anyone who does love the music, art and décor of the era."

Director Jenny Gregson said: "It really is an honour to be working with such a talented cast. It certainly makes the job of directing a lot easier.

"There was a fantastic turnout of gifted individuals at the auditions which is testament to the talent pool in Bury."

WAODS has recently formed a youth section for under 16s and further information can be found at waods.co.uk

Tickets for the show cost £8, available from the website.
