A RADIO DJ has spoken of how she came moments away from death as a child.

Tanya Hanson, was just three years old when she ended up in hospital with her temperature alarmingly shooting up by the second.

The 24 year old, of Stanway Road, Besses, presents a popular show on Bolton FM, has told The Guide how her father John recently told her the story of how he sat at her bedside desperate for her health to improve.

Tanya said: "It was strange because, though I had previously known that I had been poorly as a tot, I didn't know all the details and it was quite scary to hear, though it felt like it was a story about another person."

After being taken to hospital suffering from a serious condition which caused her lips to blister and her temperature to rise, Tanya was put under observation and John was told that, if her temperature went above 52.7c, she would likely die as her body could not withstand the pressure.

"My dad was at my bedside and could hear a beep every time my temperature changed. It beeped to 125 and to 126 and he told me that he was really scared," said Tanya.

She added: "But then he heard another beep — it went down to 125 and I got better from there. He said that it was like something from a Hollywood film."

Tanya went onto study at Mersey Drive Primary School and was deputy head girl at Philips High School.

She then nurtured her love for the stage by studying theatre at Bury College and got a performing arts degree from the University of Bolton before mentoring children at the Octagon Theatre in Bolton.

Tanya has shown she is not afraid to turn her hand to any job, as she has taken on roles at B&Q and child toy store Build a Bear.

She presents shows on Bolton FM four days a week and her regular features include Dorothy's Whinge of the Week and a pop quiz, in which John makes a weekly cameo appearance by showing off his expansive knowledge.

Tanya said: "I love presenting and helping at the station. It's good fun and the most rewarding thing is when you know people are listening and you have made an impression on people."
