POLICE are hunting two people who pushed a 61-year-old man to the ground and robbed him as he lay struggling on the floor.

At around 6pm on November 7, the victim – who had recently suffered a stroke and was in recovery - was returning home from a shopping trip in the city centre.

He alighted the Bowker Vale Metrolink Station and exited the platform via the pathway which leads on to Windsor Road, Prestwich.

As he walked under the tram bridge near to the junction of Windsor Road and Meade Hill, two people approached from behind and pushed him roughly to the ground, banging his head against the floor.

In his weak state, the victim was unable to get back to his feet and as he lay helpless on the ground he felt hands searching his pockets and his gold bracelet ripped from his wrist.

The victim never saw his attackers, who had run off before he could get back to his feet.

Detective Constable Colin Langstroth, of Bury Police, said: "This was a targeted attack against someone the offenders knew had little chance of defending himself.

"These thugs spotted weakness and exploited it ruthlessly.

"Then they left this poor man shocked and helpless on the floor with a cut to his head.

"Unfortunately the victim did not see his attackers and could not provide a description, which is why it is so important that anyone who was in the area at the time should come forward if they believe they have any information that may assist out enquiries."

Call police on 101 with information.
