HEALTH officials are set to investigate after three people were injured on a fairground ride in Heaton Park.

More than 30,000 people packed into the park to enjoy a fireworks display and fairground rides, including a ski jump, which collapsed at about 8.30pm.

It is understood that, as the foundations of the ride gave way, there was a sudden drop and people on the ride were struck by safety bars.

Three people, including a child, suffered injuries and treated by St John Ambulance staff at the scene. None of the injuries are believed to be serious.

The ride was closed and has been inspected by police, who have alerted the Health and Safety Executive, which is set to start a probe.
