ACTION could be taken against a Prestwich bar after neighbours complained about cooking, noise and security.

Bury licensing panel is set to meet at the town hall at 2pm this Monday to consider the complaints, made against Cuckoo Bar in Bury New Road.

A council report that will be presented to the meeting says a neighbour of the bar, Matthew Taylor, formally complained.

“His complaints concern the rear outside area of Cuckoo being used to cook food on a solid fuel oven, the smoke and smell from which is causing considerable nuisance to his family and neighbours inside their homes,” the report said.

It added: “He also complains about customers entering and intoxicated customers leaving Cuckoo via the rear gate, which leads onto the gated private car park.

“Some of these customers have allegedly urinated against the residents’ parked cars.”

Mr Taylor, of Church Lane, claims loud dance music pounded through the walls of his home on July 26 and there was more noise nuisance at an open mic night four days later.

He has provided the council with a video of the bar to support his claims.

The report said three other neighbours have made similar representations to Mr Taylor and the council had previously advised Cuckoo’s licence holder, David Allen, about complaints relating to noise and people smoking in the rear outside area.

At Monday’s meeting, the panel, made up of three councillors, will decide if the bar has breached licensing conditions.

Separately, Cuckoo has applied to the council for planning permission to keep the pizza oven.

A Cuckoo spokesman said: “We have always found the licensing team at Bury Council extremely helpful and have enjoyed an excellent relationship with them.

“But we absolutely refute any – and all – allegations and will be working tirelessly with the support of the Prestwich community to prove our innocence, our value to the community and our right to continue providing the service we do.”
