LOVED ones will come together tomorrow to remember a fallen firefighter killed a year ago.

On July 13 last year, a fire broke out at Paul’s Hair World in Manchester city centre, and Stephen Hunt, of New Road, Radcliffe, died in hospital after getting into difficulty tackling the blaze.

The 38-year-old father of two and former soldier was based at Manchester’s Philips Park Fire Station and was fighting the fire with about 60 colleagues.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Friends and family are set to gather at St Ann’s Church in Manchester at 2pm for a special hour-long service in his honour.

Members of the public are welcome to join them, though space in the church is expected to be tight and there is a plan to broadcast the service into the square outside.

County Fire Officer Steve McGuirk was at the scene of the fire in May for a ceremony in which a plaque was unveiled paying tribute to Mr Hunt.

Mr McGuirk said: “The support we have received from the people of Greater Manchester since Stephen’s death has been overwhelming.

"Stephen died protecting the community he loved and we would like to invite the public to join us in remembrance this Sunday.”
