SCHOOLS and council services in Bury are set to grind to a halt as teachers and council staff strike today.

Members of Unison, Unite and the GMB are all walking out in protest over a one per cent pay offer.

The National Union of Teachers has also announced a strike, in their latest day of action in protest over pay, pensions and workload.

The Fire Brigade Union are also striking from 10am to 7pm.

The strikes are part of a combined national day of action by the unions, which will see council staff, teachers, school support servants and civil servants walk out, in objection to government policy.

The strikes mean that Radcliffe pool and fitness centre will be closed all day, Castle Leisure Centre will be closed until 4pm, but Ramsbottom pool and fitness centre will be open.
