A WHITEFIELD school has won an award for helping disadvantaged pupils.

Leaders of All Saints Primary School, in Rufford Drive, were today presented with the North West pupil premium award in recognition of the way they use extra funding from the Government to boost the learning of pupils entitled to free school meals.

Judges praised the school for increasing the number of those pupils achieving level four in maths.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said: “In a modern, fair society I want every child to have the best opportunity to get on in life, regardless of their background.

“That’s why I introduced the pupil premium - extra money for schools to support each student from a disadvantaged background to make sure that they catch up with others in their class.

“The fantastic work of All Saints shows how the Pupil Premium is working.

“They’ve spent the extra money training staff who work with disadvantaged pupils and as a result these children are making huge improvements in key subjects such as maths.”
