Jonathan Tindale’s try four minutes from time saw Bury Broncos snatch a late win against local rivals Little Hulton on Saturday.

Despite a sloppy team performance, Tindale – on his first team debut – secured the Broncos’ first win in four matches with further tries coming from Charlie Delaume, Rick Brogan and Sam Donely Bury took the lead on 15 minutes, after some hard work from the forwards. Rick West gathered the ball and went down the short side, where his pass found captain Mark Brocklehurst who managed to dump the ball back inside to Delaume who fended off tackles to touch down. Blake Roberts’ attempted conversion went wide.

A combination of handling errors and penalties allowed the visitors to edge in front with a converted try.

Bury hit back again when hooker Ant Garside took the ball from dummy-half and laid on a short ball for the onrushing Donely who proved too strong to stop from close range. Roberts tagged on the extras with his second attempt on goal.

Little Hulton hit back right on the stroke of half time to level the score at 10-10 as Bury again failed to stick to their game plan.

After the break, the game slowed considerably as both sides struggled to hold on to the ball in the wet conditions. Another error led to Little Hulton’s breakthrough. A wayward Broncos pass was gathered 10 metres from their own line allowing the visitors to score on the counter-attack.

Bury got the try they needed when Garside laid on an assist with a short ball to Brogan, who wrestled his way over from close range. Roberts’ attempted conversion was just wide, meaning Bury needed another score to take something from the game.

With time running out, full-back Roberts made amends for his earlier misses to create space for winger Tindale to touch down by the posts. West added the conversion as the hosts held on for the points.
