A MAN has been left in a critical condition after an assault at this year's Parklife festival.

At around 9.15pm on Saturday, the 26-year-old victim and his girlfriend were dancing in front of the festival’s main stage when he was attacked by an unknown man.

The victim was knocked unconscious and was given CPR at the scene by two people, believed to be off-duty medical personnel.

He was then taken to North Manchester General Hospital, where his condition deteriorated and he has since been transferred to Hope Hospital.

The offender is described as a mixed race male, aged approximately 25 years old and about 6ft. He has a muscly build and short, curly, black hair which was shaved at the sides.

Detective Inspector Mark Tootill said: “The attack happened in a large crowd at one of the peak times of the festival, so we know there will be some people out there who have witnessed this assault.

“We believe that the victim may have been treated soon after the attack by two off-duty medical staff, who administered CPR before he was taken to the medical tent by security.

“We are extremely keen to speak to those two people, or anyone else who believe they may have seen the attack take place.

“If you believe you have any information that may assist us with our investigation, please contact us as soon as possible.”

A statement issued on behalf of Parklife’s organisers said: "We pride ourselves on a history of the Parklife Weekender without any incidents.

“We regret that an isolated incident has taken place at this year's event, however medics were on the scene within minutes of it taking place.

“We are in constant contact with the medical services and police to help as much as possible.

“We urge festival-goers to help the police identify the individual involved.”

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call police on 101 or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
