A FASHION show with a difference is taking place in Prestwich – because the catwalk models will all be slimming sensations.

Weight Watchers group leaders Chrissie Jackson, Eleanor Murdoch, Andrea Nee and Lynda Nicholson have organised the show with the aim of raising £2,000 for Bury Hospice.

Strutting their stuff at The Longfield Suite on Sunday, April 27 will be members of ladies’ classes from Prestwich and Whitefield.

Mrs Jackson joined Weight Watchers nine years ago after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Her weight had increased as a result of treatment for the illness, but the group helped her shed three stones.

Mrs Jackson, aged 55, from Simister, said: “My life completely changed when I joined Weight Watchers. I want to help people and show them the support that’s out there.

“I also want to dispel the stereotypes about fashion shows and make a point that you don’t need to be a stick insect to be a model. This show will give the people taking part a lot of confidence.”

Her husband Chris, aged 54, added: “I’m immensely proud of all of them for having the courage to put a show together like this, because it’s not easy.”

Mrs Jackson’s story is just one of a number of inspiring stories to emerge from the group: Mrs Nee has lost more than eight stones, while Mrs Nicholson has been a Weight Watchers leader for more than 20 years. Mrs Murdoch, who first came up with the idea for the show, joined Weight Watchers as a member in 1982, and runs sessions in Prestwich and Bury.

The 58-year-old, from Bury, said: “When I see the change in people’s lives as a result of joining Weight Watchers, it’s what makes my job worthwhile.

“The people who are modelling may never get this chance again, so we want to make it a fun day for everyone involved.”

She added: “We wanted to celebrate their success, which we hope will inspire more people to achieve the same.”

Several independent small businesses have offered prizes and their services for the show, and the garments will be supplied by Famous Names Ltd, based in The Rock, Bury.

There will be entertainment from Bury DJ Chris Buckley and a raffle.

All proceeds from event, which starts at 2pm, will be donated to Bury Hospice.
